Keeping Adobe Flash Updated on your Mac

imageMac users need to be aware that auto-updating for your OS X system is not a perfect science. Often, updates are issued by 3rd party app providers, and even if they have a setting to apply updates automatically, they often don’t do that. So you need to be vigilant in keeping your Mac up-to-date.

Especially with ‘helper’ programs like Adobe Flash. Adobe’s Flash player has been a long-time easy target for hackers, and having an out-of-date Flash player installed on your Mac can negate all the security benefits of using a Mac. So what you need to do is manually check for updates and apply them anytime they appear – and you should check at least monthly. Here’s how:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click the Flash icon that’s at the bottom of the list of system preferences (will only show if you have Flash installed)
  3. On the Flash Player’s Advanced tab, click the “Check Now” button under Updates.
  4. If an update is available, apply it immediately.

As an alternative, just visit www.adobe.com and download/install the latest Flash Player.
