Verizon email policy
Verizon email policy: a reader asks…
Hi Chris, while I’m a Verizon customer, I currently use an alternate email service. I’ve set my Verizon email account to auto-forward to my other email account, so I’m still getting emails that folks send to my Verizon account, and I want to continue receiving them. I just received an email from Verizon saying they’ll delete my Verizon email account if I don’t access it soon. But I am not sure how to “access” this account in order to keep it active. Can you help? Thanks
This policy change will be an annoyance for you, as long as you still want to get emails from your Verizon account. So I’d put the procedure below into a to-do list or into your calendar so you don’t forget to do it. I’d suggest you do this about once every 4 months or so, just to be safe.
Verizon’s policy change says that if you don’t log into your Verizon email account at least every 180 days, they will remove that account from their system. Here’s how to log into your account:
- Go to http://webmail.verizon.com
- Log in with your username (the part in front of @verizon.net) and your Verizon email password.
- Log out and shut down your web browser.
The policy actually states that you can access your email account via webmail, by getting your email with an email software program (like Outlook), or by setting up forwarding. Since you’ve already setup forwarding and you still got this note, either Verizon is not really paying attention to that particular aspect of the policy, or they are and you don’t need to take any action. But to be safe, you should use the process above at least once every six months to make sure you don’t lose that Verizon email account.
