Help! I can’t get the cycle I want on my LG Washer!
A member asks…
Hi Chris, I don’t know if you do this, but I have an LG TrueSteam washing machine. Real hi-tech! So I have a rinse and spin setting. But, I can’t choose cold water only, the button won’t let me choose cold/cold. Can you help me?
Yes, if it’s consumer technology, we can help! Looking at your particular washing machine, you’ve picked the rinse and spin cycle from the big wheel. To the right is your Wash/Rinse button, with lights above each of the choices. You’re pressing that button and it won’t go to cold/cold, right? No problem! Members can read on for more detail and an explanation of what’s happening.
The button’s label (underneath) says “Wash/Rinse”. So the selections above each have a label, such as “Warm/Cold”, “Cold/Cold” etc. So look at the order of those labels, the first entry is the wash temperature, the second is the rinse temperature. So, when you select the rinse and spin cycle, you only care about the right-side entry on the light label – because there is no wash! Any entry that has “Cold” on the right side will give you a cold rinse. You don’t need to worry about which options aren’t select-able. Your cycle selection on the big wheel locks out options you can’t use. I sure wish the manufacturer made this clear in their manual, but after reading it, I can tell it was written by someone for whom English is a 2nd (or 3rd?) language. I’m glad I was able to puzzle out the answer for you.

I can’t activate my prewash on the LG WM3700H A washing machine. Help!
Hi Marian, were you able to use the prewash function on the washer before and now you can’t use it? If so, do you get an error code or does the Prewash button not light up?
If you’ve never used the prewash function before, there is a labeled button on the right-side that you press-and-release to add a prewash option to whatever cycle you’ve selected on the main dial. If you haven’t yet selected a cycle on the main dial, you must first choose a cycle before you can add the prewash option.
Per the manual online at http://gscs-manual.lge.com/DFZ/MFL71728910/en-us/main.html#topic_35 you can’t add a pre-wash option for the Allergiene or Speed Wash cycles, but you can for every other cycle choice.
Also, the Prewash button has two functions. Press-and-instantly-release to activate the Prewash option for a selected wash cycle, or press-and-hold-3-seconds-then-release to activate the secondary function (Remote Start, using the LG smartphone app).
And if you have turned on the Control Lock, no buttons will work. Press and hold the Control Lock button for 3 seconds to turn it on, or to turn it off if it’s already on.
If the Prewash button/feature is truly malfunctioning, then you will need to call for service. Who you call depends on how old the washer is (under warranty or not), where you purchased the washer and if you purchased an extended warranty.
For example, if you purchased the washer from Best Buy and also purchased their Black Tie protection plan, you should have a plan number (on the paperwork) and you can then call 888-237-8289 or 800-433-5778 to schedule a repair.
If the washer is no longer in warranty (more than 1 year old for this type of malfunction), then you’ll need to contact either your local appliance repair shop, or use LG’s repair service center locator at https://www.lg.com/us/support/find-service-center.
I have the LG DIRECT DRIVE…IT WONTET ME SET COLD WASH. WHAT DO I DO
Hmm, cold wash is only available on certain cycles. “Your cycle selection on the big wheel locks out options you can’t use”. What cycle are you setting on the big wheel?
If you can’t choose the cold wash on any of the cycles, then your machine might be broken, in which case it’s time to call the repairman.
Trying to select other cycles on my LG direct drive all in one. Sometimes it works, others it doesn’t. Tried resetting by unplugging & pressing the start button, but that did not change anything.
HI David, it sounds like it’s time to call a repair person. It’s possible your washer’s circuit board has gone bad.
