Keeping Adobe Flash Updated on your Mac
Mac users need to be aware that auto-updating for your OS X system is not a perfect science. Often, updates are issued by 3rd party app providers, and even if they have a setting to apply updates automatically, they often don’t do that. So you need to be vigilant in keeping your Mac up-to-date.
Especially with ‘helper’ programs like Adobe Flash. Adobe’s Flash player has been a long-time easy target for hackers, and having an out-of-date Flash player installed on your Mac can negate all the security benefits of using a Mac. So what you need to do is manually check for updates and apply them anytime they appear – and you should check at least monthly. Here’s how:
- Open System Preferences
- Click the Flash icon that’s at the bottom of the list of system preferences (will only show if you have Flash installed)
- On the Flash Player’s Advanced tab, click the “Check Now” button under Updates.
- If an update is available, apply it immediately.
As an alternative, just visit www.adobe.com and download/install the latest Flash Player.
