Back Online

man-looking-at-websites-image-from-shutterstockBack Online: After more than just a few days of our online presence being anything but (…online), we are back up and running with a new website hosting company and a more robust email provider. Let me tell you what happened.

Over the last few years, our readership has grown – thank you! We were continuing to use Bluehost for our website hosting service, and their reliability and service have waned while our needs increased. The ‘last straw’ happened earlier this week, when our entire batch of services (email, website, server management) from Bluehost went down for over 2 days.

When the services were finally restored, we knew it was time to make a move. Since we run a WordPress-powered website, it made sense for us to find a new website host who really knows that platform. We reviewed a number of managed-hosting companies, and decided on WPEngine.com. With our new website hosting company, you should see our website display pages and images faster than before, and we certainly expect rock-solid performance from WPEngine.

We also knew that we can’t be without email – it was painful to not receive or send email and not know who was trying to contact us! We’ve already been using some email services from our partner, Sherweb.com and have recommended them for years. So we moved our email services whole-hog to Sherweb and couldn’t be happier. Like above, we expect rock-solid performance for our email services going forward.

So we had to take a short break from answering your questions, but will be back to normal next week. Apologies if your hot question takes a few more days till we get to it!

So again, thank you for your patience while we worked through this difficult time, and please continue to send us your questions about anything in the world of consumer technology!
