Chrome Update: a reader asks…
I use Malwarebytes as you recommended, and it occasionally sends me warning emails. I got one saying that Google Chrome has two critical flaws. Do I need to be concerned?
The warnings Malwarebytes puts out are generally good to know about, but most Chrome users have the browser set to update automatically. So you don’t need to worry too much. That said, if you want to make sure your Chrome browser is fully up-to-date, here’s how to check & update:
- In the Chrome browser window, click the three vertical dots that are near the top-right of the window. That opens a drop-down menu.
- Near the bottom is a menu item called “Help”. Move your cursor to hover over that, and a sub-menu will appear.
- On that sub-menu, click the “About Google Chrome” menu item. This will open a new tab in Chrome and either show you that your browser is up to date or begin downloading and installing an update. When the installation is complete, you’ll be prompted to restart Chrome to finish updating.
That’s all there is to it. I generally check Chrome for updates whenever I see anything online (in news feeds or email) that mentions the Chrome web browser.
