Lost my Mac Calendar!

frustrated-woman-in-front-of-computer-image-from-shutterstockLost my Mac Calendar! a reader asks…

I’m so mad at myself! I’ve been using the iCloud app on my PC to sync my calendar and contacts from Outlook to my iPhone. I got an iMac and setup the Calendar app, everything looks good. Except I accidentally deleted my calendar! I looked and it’s empty on my iPhone and in Outlook on my PC too! Am I toast or can I get it back somehow?

Whoops! Don’t beat yourself up too much, it’s just too darn easy to accidentally delete things from your computer, Mac or PC. Fortunately, Apple assumed these little oopsies would happen occasionally, so your iCloud calendar and contacts are backed up. Here’s how to restore your calendar:

  1. apple-mac-calendar-iconSign in to www.iCloud.com with your Apple ID and password
  2. Click Settings, then scroll down and click Restore Calendars and Reminders under Advanced
  3. Click Restore next to the date before you deleted your calendars and reminders, and click Restore again to confirm.

After the restore completes, you’ll get a notification on iCloud.com and an email to the address on file with your Apple ID. You should know that when you restore an earlier version of your calendars and reminders:

  • Your sharing settings get erased. You can share the calendars and reminders again, or you can ask the owner to share them again.
  • iCloud cancels and recreates all of your upcoming, scheduled events, then resends the invitations for you.

I need to download Mac Calendar app. Mine is not working. I cannot use it. I really need another. Where can I get the Mac Calendar app?

    • If your Mac calendar app isn’t working, probably the first thing you should do is run First Aid on your Mac. In Finder > Applications >Utilities open Disk Utility and click the First Aid icon at the top to run it and correct any hard drive errors. Then, you can troubleshoot the calendar app if it’s still not working by starting your Mac in safe mode.

Apple has complete instructions for using Safe mode at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262.

When you’ve started your Mac in safe mode, open the calendar app. If it opens ok, go ahead and restart the computer normally and try the calendar app again. Most likely the app will start working again normally.

If you are still having trouble then you’ll need to visit Apple Support https://support.apple.com/mac – connect with a service tech who will walk you through troubleshooting and fixing the issue with the calendar app.

Apple doesn’t make the apps that come with a Mac available individually, as they’re part of the macOS installation. Since you don’t need to completely re-install macOS, the Apple Support folks are your best bet to get just that app re-installed.
