Verizon/AOL Email after I quit Verizon?

Verizon/AOL Email after I quit Verizon? A reader asks…

If we cancel our Verizon services (cable, internet, phone, email), will we lose our Verizon email? We made the switch when they moved the emails to AOL.  So now we log in through AOL. We’ve had the same email for 10 plus years and don’t want to lose that, but Verizon prices are just ridiculous. If we cancel Verizon services, will we need a paid AOL account?

Nope, since your email is through AOL, that’s free email service, and is no longer directly associated with your Verizon services. I found this Verizon discussion group thread which confirms this. Your Verizon email account was merged into AOL several years back, and subsequently all moved/sold off to Yahoo in 2021. So Yahoo now runs the Verizon.net, aol.com and yahoo.com email services, as well as other domain names. You can find a complete list of domains that Yahoo controls here.

Oh, and AOL stopped charging for email years ago, but left any paying customers in the dark. Some are still paying, even though they get nothing extra for that. Nobody should be paying AOL a dime for email services.
