Quirky Mouse

I have a weird problem, it seems my Lenovo Windows 10 computer freezes often, clicking doesn’t do anything, especially in Google Chrome. This is happening more and more lately. Can you help?

After a bit of back and forth discussion and observing what was happening, I determined that the problem wasn’t with the computer or any of the programs – it was with the mouse. The key top solving the mystery was watching the user try to log in. It took several tries after typing in the password – clicking the login button didn’t do anything until maybe the 4th try.

The user had a stock Lenovo desktop PC with a Lenovo wired mouse, and I worked remotely with her and her computer so I could only see her screen, move her cursor with my mouse and type characters on her computer with my keyboard. We tried checking for problems with memory, disk use, Google Chrome settings (and even tried my fix for Slow Chrome), and every time I tried to experience the problem (using remote access), I couldn’t find it. But when the user used her computer, things didn’t work. Process of elimination pointed to a problem with her input hardware, specifically the mouse.

The mouse that came with the computer is likely the cheapest variety the manufacturer can get, to keep the total price low. Fortunately, it was easy tofor her to replace her mouse, and that completely resolved her issue. Just goes to show that what looks like a frozen computer may not be that at all!
